The Bensadoun School of Retail Management hosted our third Virtual Mini Retail Summit on Friday, January 29th. We were excited to welcome Horacio Barbeito, CEO of Walmart Canada and Bora Keskin, Associate Professor at Duke University. Mr. Barbeito discussed how Walmart continues to reposition itself during the pandemic and how they are responding to unprecedented聽disruption. He聽shared the lessons learned for both large companies and SMEs. Professor Keskin discussed聽how he and his coauthors developed data-driven joint dynamic inventory and pricing policies for a perishable product in a changing demand environment (e.g., pandemics and weather events). Using a real-life data set from a leading supermarket chain, he showed that their policies significantly outperform聽the historical decisions made by the supermarket chain.
