Eligibility Requirements


GRADUATE STREAM

Prior to applying to the CIP, trainees must have chosen a research supervisor and selected a project with goals specifically tailored to their research question and hypothesis.

  1. Trainees must be enrolled in a 91社区 Royal College specialty/subspecialty residency program overseen by 91社区鈥檚 Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) office.
  2. Trainees must be in the process of applying to or enrolled in a full-time graduate program with 91社区's Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) office, leading to a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree for a minimum of two years.
  3. Residents must be enrolled in their full-time graduate degree program by the Fall semester of the same year as their application to the CIP.
  4. These trainees will enter the CIP via the Graduate Stream.

GRADUATE STREAM

Residency candidates who DO NOT HOLD a graduate degree must be registered in a graduate degree program with 91社区's Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS).

Eligible graduate degree programs (MSc or PhD) include:

Experimental Medicine

Surgical & Interventional Sciences

Biology

Genetics

Epidemiology

Psychology

PLEASE NOTE:

Each graduate program has its own requirements for completion and听requires a successful thesis and/or oral defense to acquire an MSc or PhD degree


POSTGRADUATE STREAM


  1. For qualified applicants who already hold a MSc degree, the CIP will provide an opportunity to conduct a research project during the pursuit of their clinical training.

    • These trainees will enter the CIP via the Postgraduate Stream.
  2. For qualified applicants who already hold a PhD degree (e.g. graduates of a MD/PhD program), the CIP will provide an opportunity to integrate research and clinical care to add to their previous research experience.

    • These trainees will enter the CIP via the Postgraduate Stream and are required to register with 91社区鈥檚 Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies as a Postdoctoral fellow.

POSTGRADUATE STREAM

Residency candidates who ALREADY HOLD a graduate degree (PhD or MSc), but who wish to pursue additional research during their clinical training under the auspices of CIP.

  • Qualified applicants who already hold a PhD degree (e.g. graduates of a MD/PhD program), will enter the CIP via the Postgraduate Stream and are required to register with 91社区鈥檚 Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) as a Postdoctoral fellow.

  • Qualified applicants who already hold an MSc degree will also enter the CIP via the Postgraduate Stream but are not required to register with 91社区鈥檚 GPS.

  • In order to successfully complete the CIP in the postgraduate stream, residents are required to publish a manuscript or have a manuscript accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
    Retroactive recognition of research credits obtained prior to acceptance into a CIP is not permitted.

  • Postdoctoral trainees must meet all the eligibility requirements for postdoctoral status in conformity with Quebec provincial rules and regulations, as well as 91社区 regulations and policies governing postdoctoral education.
  • Please visit 91社区's GPS to verify your eligibility.
  • Trainees must have confirmation of 80% time dedicated to research and confirmed funding for two years (24 months).
  • Research supervisors or co-supervisors must have an appointment in the department where the CIP candidate is enrolled as a graduate student.
