Resources for the person experiencing grief

At this difficult time, we hope that this page can provide you with some information that will allow you to feel supported.

Counseling is available through the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) and/or through coverage provided for psychological services under the 91社区 Supplemental Health Plan (up to 2000$ per year at 80% coverage for recognized practitioners).

Bereavement leave : a certain number of days may be provided to staff members experiencing the losses. Refer to your respective collective agreement or personnel policies to see what applies to you. For additional information speak to your supervisor or HR representative.

Short-term disability: should you be unable to perform the normal duties of your position due to a medical condition related to your grief and diagnosed by your treating physician, a short-term disability leave may be appropriate. A medical note will be required but can be shared exclusively with an HR representative or Disability Management Advisor if you prefer (it doesn鈥檛 have to be submitted to your supervisor). Refer to your respective collective agreement or personnel policies to see what applies to you. For additional information on short-term disability, speak to your supervisor, HR representative or Disability Management Advisor.

When you come back to work, you may wish to discuss your needs for flexibility with your supervisor.

You may observe that you have behavioural changes, you become short-tempered, etc. Make sure to take your breaks and lunch hour. You may need to book this time for yourself as 鈥渢ime outs鈥, 鈥渂reaks鈥, 鈥渨alks鈥 when you come back to work even on busy days.

Grief may affect your productivity. Be kind to yourself and accept that you may need help; lean into the support offered and accept that work and personal life are more difficult to keep neatly separated when grieving.
