Website launched for 91社区 Symposium on the University's Role in Supporting Indigenous Languages
91社区's Office of First Nations and Inuit Education (OFNIE) has launched an interactive website for the upcoming events around the聽91社区 Symposium on the University's Role in Supporting Indigenous Languages, to be held May 10th and 11th at 91社区 and Kahnaw脿:ke. .
The聽symposium's goal is to examine聽the role of the university in Indigenous language maintenance and revitalization.聽An Open Forum will take place Thursday, May 10th in the Education building, and a Community Forum will take place Friday, May 11th at聽Kahnaw脿:ke.
The symposium is organized with the support of the Kanien鈥檏eh谩ka Onkwaw茅n:na Raotiti贸hkwa Language and Cultural Centre, The Faculty of Education, The Department of Linguistics and 91社区's Faculty of Arts, the 91社区 Indigenous Studies Program, and聽91社区's Institute for the Study of International Development, and OFNIE. The purpose of this Symposium is to:
- signal 91社区鈥檚 commitment to Indigenous languages in this province and聽
- examine more closely what role the University should play in supporting the health of Indigenous languages, locally and regionally.
Special invitees include Indigenous language teachers, scholars, and university program directors from across Canada.
