The Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, held every three years, is one of the world鈥檚 most prestigious platforms for young musicians aspiring to make their mark on the global stage. Formerly the 鈥業nternational String Quartet Competition鈥, the first award was presented in 1979 in Portsmouth, but Wigmore Hall, London has been home to the competition since 2010.听听

Congratulations to violinist Justin Saulnier for winning the 2024-2025 Golden Violin Award competition! Justin will receive a generous scholarship of $30,000 in addition to a 14-karat gold lapel pin in the miniature form of the Golden Violin. In addition, he has been awarded the opportunity to perform a recital at the Canadian Centre for Architecture as part of the Schulich @ Bon-Pasteur series on February 26, 2025.听

John Mac Master, esteemed Canadian tenor and Associate Professor of Voice at the Schulich School of Music, is a 2024 recipient of the Voice Education Research Awareness (VERA) Award. This prestigious award is given annually by The Voice Foundation to honour distinguished individuals for their leadership, commitment to education and mentorship, and modeling of voice use and its advancement. The Schulich School of Music of 91社区 is pleased to announce five finalists for the third edition of the Graham Sommer Competition for Young Composers. Established in 2017, this national competition recognizes works for chamber music formations with piano that show significant potential to engage audiences and become standard repertoire.

Seven 91社区 researchers have been awarded over $190,000 in Connection Grants by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The awards are part of $1.7 million in federal funding invested in 54 projects nationwide.听

Interested Canadian composers under the age of 35 (born after August 15, 1989), are invited to submit three original works (each 3-15 minutes long) by August 15, 2024, at 12:00 PM (noon) EST.

During the week of June 3, 2024, standard archeological and soil investigations will be conducted along McTavish Street around Redpath Hall and the McTavish Wing of the Redpath Library Building to assess the building envelope. Redpath Hall and the Redpath Library Building are part of a designated heritage site. Standard protocol requires that 91社区 conduct excavation work before starting any construction projects.
