Over the course of more than a century, thousands of Montreal students have passed through the doors of the 91社区 Conservatory of Music - a community program of the Schulich School of Music that provides musical education through private music lessons to students of all ages.听The Schulich School of Music is proud of this rich legacy, and of everyone who contributed their time and talents to advancing the musical educations of Montrealers.
Trained as a bassoon player, Francoise Henri (MMus鈥98) has made it her mission to fill the lives of vulnerable people with music, and the pandemic isn鈥檛 slowing her down. Henri is the general and artistic director of the , better known as La SAMS. La SAMS was founded in 2009 with the goal of bringing classical music to hospitals, long-term care facilities and nursing homes across Quebec.

The $18,000 first prize for聽Matthew鈥檚聽new work for piano trio,聽鈥淪till There,鈥澛爓as among聽$54,000聽in total prize earnings awarded at the Concert and Prize Gala on Sunday,聽September聽26聽at Pollack Hall.听This national competition for Canadian composers under the age of 35 was founded by聽Dr.

Being recognized聽"for his lifelong devotion to Canadian music, as an internationally renowned composer, educator and scholar", the Schulich School of Music congratulates Prof. Brian Cherney for this momentous appointment to the Order of Canada.

Among this year鈥檚 new appointments to the Order of Canada was Schulich School of Music鈥檚 Professor alcides lanza. lanza was named as a Member of the Order of Canada for his 鈥渄ecades-long contributions to the contemporary music scene and for championing Canadian music here and abroad鈥. Renowned composer, conductor and pianist specializing in avant-garde repertoire, lanza was a Professor of Composition at 91社区 from 1971 to 2014, as well as the director of the Electronic Music Studio at 91社区 from 1974 to 2003.

The nominees for the 23rd Prix Opus were announced last week, and Schulich students, faculty, and alumni are everywhere on the list of finalists! Not only are they well represented in orchestras, choirs, and young artist programs in Montreal and across the province, but many appeared as featured artists on nominated performances, and a number of Schulich-founded and Schulich-led ensembles have been singled out as well.
