PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The objective of this project is to increase access to health promotion and prevention in school settings, increase opportunities for 91ÉçÇø Health and Social Services students to complete internships and provide these students with an opportunity for employment in the CSSS Dorval-Lachine-LaSalle and in the Lester B. Pearson School Board. The project will therefore aim to:

  • Better identify and articulate services for students with special needs, particularly those with behavioural and learning difficulties. As a means for better servicing our student population, particularly those students with learning and behavioural difficulties, a multidisciplinary team of professionals will be available, consisting of psychologists, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, consultants and guidance counsellors to identify and develop services.
  • Share expertise found within the professional services of the LBPSB and, with 91ÉçÇø students and health professionals, ultimately provide practical solutions that will help unify and improve practices within the LBPSB.
  • Share expertise found within the LBPSB professional services and work with 91ÉçÇø students in the following health professions: Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Psychology and Communication Sciences and Disorders, in a school setting.
  • Ultimately provide practical solutions that will help unify and improve practices within the LBPSB: share research and best practices, provide solutions, and develop and implement prevention and promotion programs that will best serve students with learning difficulties and behavioural difficulties.

    A Needs Assessment for Family Support: For the Families of Vulnerable Youth with Learning Difficulties & Behavioural Difficulties

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION

    The objectives of this project are to:

    • Conduct a needs assessment, identify & articulate services for family support for students with behavioural difficulties and learning difficulties;
    • Provide internship opportunities for 91ÉçÇø students from the Faculty of Education, Department of Psychology and the School of Social Work;
    • Provide FRIENDS Anxiety Disorder training to bilingual social workers from the Lester B. Pearson School Board and CSSS de Dorval-Lachine-LaSalle;
    • Provide FRIENDS Anxiety Disorder training to Lakeside Academy teachers and staff of health professionals;
    • Offer support programs for students and families that have been selected by Lakeside Academy high school;
    • Explore community and public resources and services available in the Lasalle-Lachine and ²Ñ´Ç²Ô³Ù°ùé²¹±ô areas.

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION

    English, an Asset! will help increase retention of English-speaking health professionals in Quebec through five specific means:

    • YOU IN HEALTH?  Encouraging young English-speaking people to undertake careers in health professions;
    • THEORY IN PRACTICE Providing opportunities for English-speaking students to contribute their linguistic abilities and theoretical understanding gained from coursework within healthcare settings and complementary community services;
    • IMMERSION AU TRAVAIL Providing opportunities for bilingual English-speaking students to acquire ease and comfort in working in Francophone settings;
    • AIDE AU RECRUTEMENT LINGUISTIQUE Helping Francophone institutions to actively attract linguistically adaptable job applicants;
    • ADVENTURE TRAINING INTERNSHIPS Collaborating with partnering regions to attract English-speaking students of health-related disciplines, or students considering a career in healthcare, to Adventure Training Internship packages across Québec.
